Being sick generally sucks, but it does have one upside. One gets to feel sorry for oneself with some amount of legitimacy.
I'm not sure if this works for the quiet introvert that doesn't want to bother people, but for a drama queen like me, being sick home alone on Christmas Eve has all sorts of potential for getting fussed over. And let's face it, some of us just looove being fussed over.
I've kept the melodrama out of my Facebook status line to not abuse the kindness of my friends, but I think maybe I'll ham it up after the holidays.

Corrections:
1. "Introvert that doesn't" should be "introvert who doesn't". "That" isn't strictly wrong, but is infelicitous when referring to a person.
2. Some people don't like sentences that begin with conjunctions. But I'm not one of them. So we'll just skip "And let's face it".
3. Typo: "looove" should be "loooove".
4. I know the split infinitive no longer causes other people distress, but I still find that "to not abuse" makes a grating sound. It would sound nicer as "so as not to abuse".

It's a terrible time to get sick, especially when you're alone. If you can hang on until Thursday, you'll be fussed over so much that you'll wish you'd never been sick.

I hope you have some interesting DVD to watch while you're curled up under the blankets!
The last time I had the flu (in September), I had very high fever for 3 days in a row and a dry cough that lasted 3 weeks. I hope your cold/flu is not this bad!
