... and I love it!
I spent a good part of my life having a hard time shopping because I didn't fit into any off-the-shelf clothing. But now, having settled into a comfortable weight, I'm actually a totally average size 8, or medium. For the most part, clothes just fit. I always have to get pants hemmed a bit, but that's okay. It's not expensive and not much trouble.
This weekend I needed a suit. I walked into Winsmoore (at The Bay in MicMac) and walk out with a well fitting suit (pants to be hemmed) in about 45 mins. Halleluia. I am normal, average, and all that. When it comes to sizes, that's great news.

I'm glad you're getting your clothes off the rack, but I ain't buying "average".
I've always had problems fitting into pants, even when I was at the top of my shape (martial arts 5 times a week): when the waist/hip size is just right, the pants are too tight at the back! So lucky you to have fitting pants =o).
